Ian, glad you escaped unscathed...sorry we cant say the same for the pride and joy.

If your anything like me, it will bug you that she is no longer "perfect"...(sorry that probably doesn't help much does it?) but that feeling soon passes and you start to wear the scrapes as a memento of a shared "journey", then all the little squeaks and scratches start to mean something.

So don't replace the tape, wear it with pride...(until you get gigantic blisters on one hand!)

Oh god, that sounds wrong too...I'm just gonna leave it there:blush:

I am I the only one who thimks that if you get doored, then you are riding to close to parked cars?

Well, yes although the onus of responsibilty lies with the car driver/owner per the Highway Code to take care when opening the door. The fact that Ian was able to stop is an indication he was taking care (I hope). Sometimes it's not always possible to give a wide berth.

You can't always cycle out of the door zone can you?

Why post this now anyway?...The OP has had a traumatic incident and you come out with this.

hey guys, the tape has a tiny rip in it, not even worth bothering replacing. The lady knew she did wrong with the result that I hope she will be more attentive and careful next time.

now... if it was my pride and joy that it had happened to (pride and joy being the Roubaix. The Secteur is my commute bike), then it would have been a whole different ball game... and she WOULD have been marched to a cash point..

Try to be positive about it. Its got its first marks, anything else now won't seem quite so bad. There is a theory that you should put a small scratch somewhere unobtrusive on a new car/bike as then you won't get as stressed about it when it inevitably gets a second 'proper' one as its no longer perfect anyway. Not something I subscribe to though.

Hmm... ok, if it's only a small rip, I'll make it £25.

I'm ignoring Chris' offer. £100 is way too much so he's obviously just having a laugh.

Unfortunately where I live it's very difficult to avoid doing so and many of the cycle lanes are in the door zone. Although I know I'm not legally obliged to use them sometimes the level of harassment I'm given for not using them means I give in because it's just too stressful otherwise.

Sometimes it's unavoidable and this woman's still a silly nobber.

Sorry to hear about this.

I get very upset by the use of the word "mate". I almost take it as an insult if used by anyone but a close friend. My reason being that it's a word mostly used without any friendly meeting, usually when people are trying to get their own way in some regard. Australians are exempt due to cultural differences

I know....i'm a caustic sod. Honestly. I'm not having a bad day
