My new SS Build

So I picked this up today at a yard sale, It is a 1972 Schwinn Varsity. All original as far as I can tell, all steel frame, horizontal dropouts so I thought it was a perfect project for a single speed build. I have pretty much stripped it down and started cleaning. I will post some more pics as it comes along. I gave all of $61 (u.s.d.) for it

I have pulled the big chainring and Im going to just run the 39t thats on it for now, I will change out the cranks and ring later when money lets me. This thing has a BIG BB on it, so I'm sure that won't be cheap to replace, for now I may just repack the bearings, it seems ok but it is 42 years old

Repacked the bearings today, crankset and headset. Looking for new tires and then a new wheelset, for now I'm going to to replace the freewheel with a single speed and go from there

Bloody hell, £36 for that? Why do I never find great bikes like that?

Only once, when I was 8 or 9......................until I was about 13

After all it made wheelies so much easier In fact I'm sure I spent more time on just the back wheel of my 10 speed Sun than I did on two

I found another one just like it yesterday for $55 , going to maybe pick it up if he still has it in a few days. The other bike does not have the front and rear light like the one I'm working on and I believe a different year. Either way it may be worth $55 just for the frame. I have the bars on the right way now and put on some white bar tape I had already, I will need to replace brake cables but thats minor

So I have the bike stripped down and Im thinking of just doing a complete respray on it, just have to decide if I want to stick with the schwinn green or try something else?

If the paint work is good why respray i think it would look good in green

Well the paint wasn't what I would call good, So I checked on matching the green, wow! a lot of $$$ so the new color is Gloss White
