I was neveer familiar with Dawes model names as I I'd never owned one (until last year). A number of my friends at the time had them and they were a very well respected name.
Thanks I'll try that. The gears are in fact Huret (rear) and are about to be replaced as they are the weakest part of the bike after the brakes. You don't realise how much brake technology has come on. The Weinmann brakes are just as bad on my 80's Galaxy and due for replacement when I find something suitable.
