This week I have used my flamethrower/weed gun to clear the side of the drive and attempted to get my pulse jet working but to no avail because I can't find the car ignition coil based ignition system and the blow lamp method of starting a pulse jet was unsuccessful.

Performing a search for a HT ignition system, I found a complete package i.e. pulse jet and ignition system going for a song so I've ordered it.

While searching for pulse jet related paraphernalia I discovered an interesting pulse jet set up created from two tin cans, some silicon sealant and methylated spirits as a fuel.

I'm about to unearth a large coffee tin that I had squirrelled away 'just in case' and tomorrow I'l be searching for a suitably shaped tin can to use as a combustion chamber. I have the silicon sealant and methylated spirits.

Watch this space.....

This is what I'm after recreating.

Furthermore, I just realised I have just about all of the literature, materials and tooling to hand to make a self sustaining gas turbine engine just like this one.

I'm going to be busy in my shed this autumn/winter...

Edited to put the video of the gas turbine engine on the page instead of a second copy of the tin can engine video. The action starts just before the four minute mark on the second video.

"Bush engineering" at its very best. He's a hugely talented guy. I don't like the delivery but it really is a joy to see somebody actually making something rather than just poncing about with words.
It's impressive. He's a bit loud, but it's great to see garden shed engineering like this.
I can't stand his presentation style but I so want his toys.

We could use some flame jets here at work. Some of my work colleagues have NO IDEA how to apply aftershave. They put heaps on, until your tortured sinuses can detect them from the other side of the building, then they apply more.

Just give me fair warning, @vernon, so I can get away from the building before the massive explosion .
