Firstly my friend - still on crutches and unable to move his knee. The hospital suspect some serious ligament damage and tentatively suggest 6 to 12 months out! However he will know more when he has a series of scans in a couple of weeks when, hopefully, some of the swelling will have gone down.

Secondly the car driver, who was deeply apologetic at the scene, is now being very aggressive on the phone and does not want anything to go through insurance but has only offered £100 for the bike!

So all-in-all pretty cr&ppy!

WTF! He has no say in matters, he was in the wrong. Your mate should go directly to his insurer and he also needs to be putting in a claim for compensation. I am not a fan of the claim culture but seriously, being debilitated for 6-12 months is serious -what if he had a manual job? Your mate has no need to deal with him directly, let the lawyers handle it.
