My Specialized Hard Rock is now “officially” a retro classic MTB, so says the technician at my lbs. Following the saga of my stuck seat post – and I’m sure that everyone here has been following the saga with fittingly baited breath – I first of all dropped into my local Halfords to pick up a seat stem thinking they were universal, only to find they are indeed not (note to self: drop into Halfords for refund or credit note for non-fitting seat post).
Then I dropped into my lbs with the frame and I find I need a 26.8 which is now on order as there is apparently, “a revived interest in retro classic MTBs”.
Apart from the obvious nicks and scratches - collected through 20 years of commuting on and off-road - touched up with grey and silver Hammerite, the frame is actually in brilliant condition and has seen a succession of wearing parts in its long service. Hence I am reluctant to part with it, despite the increasing difficulty to find parts.
