Microsoft make more money off android sales than they do their own phones so their laughing all the way to the bank either way.

I've got a Windows phone and it's been running on Win10 since before xmas and it's superb imo.
However I've no interest in starva or sodding pokemons.. I see the lack of those apps as a plus

I think Pokemon are quite happy that you don't intend sodding any of them

My long suffering dumb phone was retired as my Missus bought me a Windows phone for fathers day. I love it - I switched off all the data and GPS rubbish and it's now like a nice dumb phone, albeit a black and shiny one.

They are not compulsory to install, you know.

My Windows phone is brilliant - but then I only use it to talk and text.

We need a new word to describe these things; pocket computers, perhaps? Because that's what they are. Messaging and voice are just two apps. If that's really all you use, you'd be better off with Nokia Candy bar which was much better for voice and ok for text.

They don't want you just to use it for that though, which is why you'll seldom see one for sale

iPhones are fine if you are a drone. They're great if you want to ask Apple before you do anything. Want a film on your phone? Ask Apple. Want to go for poo? Ask Apple. Need to tie your shoelaces? Ask Apple.

Or, you could use Android and just drag and drop all that without asking Apple.

I'd like one, a handset, that I can use outdoors, without modifcation, for extended periods in a wet winter.

Edit
SIM free from the outset.

After a decade or so of buying dumb phones (odd, since I'm a software engineer), I gave in a few months ago, and bought a Samsung Galaxy S5, complete in all its Androidy goodness (I think Buffy-speak has rubbed off on me). It's quite a nice phone. Even looking at it with the critical eye of someone in my profession, I can't find much wrong with it.

So far I've resisted the urge to write an Android app, just because I can...

Don't think I've heard 'pocket computer' since Blondie mentioned them!

I used to rave about my lumia 925; fantastic camera, very quick phone processing wise, and very robust. I got rid of it because the apps were so frustratingly bad. Ebay wouldn't allow saved searches. Youtube was rubbish and kept crashing. I've now got a Samsung Galaxy S7. The only thing I hate about Android is the free* apps bombard you with ads, sometimes lasting 60 seconds. That's the price you pay for a good operating system though. The ads on the windows phone were minimal, presumably because the target audience was so small.

*if anyone anywhere is benefiting from you using something, then it's not free!
