my telephone line has a great sense of humour

The phone rings, and I answer it to hear " this is the office of microsoft..." and my heart sinks.

But then I get saved by my rather intermittent telephone line. It crackles loudly & repeatedly and I hear " hello, hello?..." cue my "hello, I can't hear you..." and hanging up. It must have a really good sense of humour because the next call was my husband and the line was perfectly clear....

Don't tell me your computer isn't working properly either! Mine started playing up and I got the same call, all they wanted was my bank account details to fix it for me.....

Aha - been there, fixed that!

(If you are using a wired broadband connection and/or wired phones - replace your ADSL filter(s). I had that problem with a dodgy filter, and another time when I forgot to put a filter on one extension phone.)

tis definitely not the wiring in the house - I haven't got any! ...shall give it a try... but it started when the local telephone exchange was upgraded to all the cards being 8Mb. previously we were the only people on the new card which was 8Mb and we never had any issues - everyone else was on 2Mb. since it was upgraded last November, our internet drops out every time it rains, every time someone rings up and also as and when it wants to. anything up to 20-30 times a day - its that bad we now have a yearly subscription to a mobile broadband dongle (£73 for 12Gb with a life of 12 months) which is what I am on right now - given it has gone down again!

My wife spent 20 odd minutes "misunderstanding" what they were saying and being unable to log in as they asked........before asking if the problem was anything to the little Apple on the front of the computer
