Well, where to start. One the 17th and 18th of September 2011 I took part in my very first Coast to Coast with five blokes all atleast 30 years older than me. Day one we started in MaryPort and covered 90.5 miles with an average speed of 16/17mph. The last 25 miles was difficult as it was majority hills and as I only have two gears on the front it made it very difficult but I managed to keep up with the rest. The second day took the miles up to 147.8ish miles which we ended in Roker I think. We had left one of the group behind as he wanted to go his own pace which was slower than ours. Two of the other guys, who sponsored me a fiver each left us at Newcastle which left me and two blokes my mam knows. We wanted to get to the very coast and so continued on, once there we cycled up to Silksworth, rather a few hills.
Overall the total was 152.88miles
One the last extra miles I did almost wipe out one guy as I was behind him and didnt acknowledge the lights turning red and had to quickly swerve to avoid him, stopping in the middle of the junction next to a copper. (I shuffled backwards to where the other two guys were). Then a few miles later we were stopped at lights, we were going straight on, a car behind us turning left, we set off and the car either couldn't see us (even though we were infront of him) or he was being impatient, blasted his horn as he had to slam his brakes on to avoid hitting us.
I have raised atleast £200 for the Macular Degeneration Disease so far and there are still people putting in. It was a fantastic weekend and I can't wat to do it again. Hopefully my next big ride will be Lands End to John O'Groats.
Bring it On!
