Narrow cycle lane - Vauxhall Bridge Road

RIP. I'm gutted about this - I remember seeing this sign. I hate the cycle lane on this road - I wish they'd rip it up. I don't use it, I take the middle of the nearside lane, but I get abuse from drivers for not using it.

It's awful, and might lead to inexperienced cyclists believing they are safer than they actually are.

But it wasn't the cycle lane which killed this man. It was a truck driver.

Well yes, it was a truck driver to blame. That doesn't alter the effect of the cycle lane, mind.

No, absolutely correct. But, if the media coverage were to be believed, the cycle lane leapt up and beat the cyclist to death. Truck driver some passive observer. We shouldn't allow bad driving to be excused. Nor, however, should we allow bad planning to be implemented (I'm thinking CSH here).

I'm prepared to bet that the same newspapers discussing this 'dangerous cycle lane' also carried a puff piece when they were first proposed/put in place.

it's not only that stretch which is bad, the cycle lanes across pimlico and vauxhall are bad
