I got booted out of cycling proficiency for refusing to wear a helmet (1992). My mum got called in to see the headmistress, that was a short meeting.

Can I join the club please? I too failed it...

THANKYOU!!
My Sister doesn't believe me, she thinks they just passed you anyway regardless.

Why did you fail?? (And don't say its because you didn't have a bike ^_^).

I didn't have one when I did it in 1994, but that was mainly because I had one of the very first Polystyrene ones that were huge and could be seen from space. The sort you see the Army using, or at least did. There was, however NO WAY I was wearing THAT to school, I looked like a Mushroom from Supermario with it on!

Actually, there was a picture taken for the local paper of us doing it, and in the group picture, I was the only one not wearing a helmet. I kind of wish I'd kept that helmet now, it would have been interesting to see, but I seem to remember we eventually exchanged it at Halfords for a slightly more sensible one.

I did have a bike albeit my mother's bike which was way too big for me (old fashioned woman's step-through shopper). I actually can't remember what it was I failed on, only that I did and my younger brother did not... It probably had more to do with my approach to which side of the road I was meant to cycle on... I am still having to check the signposts and oncoming cars even now!

I nearly failed mine when my dad, who was controlling the traffic lights, changed them to red, for a laugh, as I crossed the line, so I had to do an emergency stop... "He's an idiot", I remember thinking.

I've still got my badge, but I don't remember leaving the playground to get it - seems a bit pointless when you look back on it. At least all my kids have done their Bikeability on the road instead!

Nice find!! Question though: Obviously you passed the cycling proficiency, but did you fall off on your way home... Looks like it's met the road at some point!!

It does look like it has a road rash, doesn't it!! Maybe it's because it's about 50 years old and has been in the bottom of a draw for about 49 of them!! (And it's less than 1" across and photo'd very close up)
