Gambling is a terrible thing. A friend of mine lost his house and family through the lottery.

He won £20m and moved to Spain with his new 18 year old girlfriend.

Money doesn't bring you happiness, only choices.

I'd still love to try though, and no, I most certainly wouldn't make it public (although I doubt I'd be able to trust others to keep their mouths shut, so I'd probably move) - The amount of crap you must get off people must make it horrendous!

Saw a TV documentary a few years ago which looked at big money winners on lotteries.

Basically their conclusion was:

Miserable before the win - miserable after it.
Happy before the win - happy after it.
Happy with partner before the win - happy with partner after the win
Unhappy with partner before the win - separate soon after the win
Unpleasant person before the win - still unpleasant after it (and again the converse)
Lots of friends before the win or few friends before the win - loads more friends suddenly appear after the win.
Broke before the win - broke again a few years after the win

and so on.

Basically in almost all cases it made no difference to the people, but in most cases causes a change in lifestyle and financial circumstances.

Don't know what I'd do with a win that size, but I'd certainly enjoy finding out.

I think the trouble is, us mere mortals that weren't born into money, or didn't gain vast personal wealth through work, aren't quite sure what to do with it. I mean, £148 million is an awkward sum. You are technically rich, but not super rich, so perhaps in some ways poor...

I think limiting it lots of £1m wins would be better.

Money doesn't buy happiness. It would make life more comfortable as you shouldn't have to worry about the bills (unless you go on an OTT spending spree) but if you are unhappy beforehand, I don't see why you would be happy afterwards.

Their marriage was likely a failure anyhow they just didn't know it yet as they hardly seen each other working on opersites shifts. Now that they had the money to spend the time together it became fully clear how bad their relationship was. The money only cleared the mist. On interpretation of how I seen the situation. I could be wrong
