Jesus, I was too busy looking for the van to be at fault! If it were a car, it would have been a worse outcome!

Good Capture (and avoidance!)

It's just a shame we can't roadsafe bad cyclists eh? Too many incidents like this and there'll have to be a way to tie them down so as not to let cyclists get away with things motorists can't.

I actually thought he hadn't seen me,looking through the video actually makes me think probably he did, which shows how useful cameras can be when things like this happen.

I wondered why I hadn't seen him till very late and why he hadn't seen me.

Sorry to re-post, but looking back I never even noticed your questions related to the incident.

What do you think?

I think both (95% other party were at fault) keeping your eyes on the road, could have made the situation safer. However, who rapidly turns direction crossing another path of traffic without looking?

What did I do right?

There was nothing much more than you could do, your instinct to Stop (and fling out a few profanity's:laugh: kicked in)

What did I do wrong?

Not Paying attention to your surroundings and road. (maybe not following him and giving him a kick in the arse :ninja: )

I don't see what else you could have done, it was a good job you were slowing a bit anticipating van naughtiness, so you were able to brake enough to avoid hitting that dozy klutz of a bike rider.

Good reactions. I don't think you did anything wrong - stuff like this is bound to happen from time to time.

Someone posted a scooter rider doing almost the same thing recently, except that this time the scooter rider managed to bail out. His bail out was not composed, though.

You did fine, there was nothing else you could have done. Submit it to Gaz for Silly Cyclists.

Yeah can't see you being able to do much more, watching the video again knowing to look for the cyclist it's still hard to spot him. I would be tempted to hunt him down but that's just me

I don't want to stereotype fixie riders because I know how annoying it is when people do so for cyclists in general, but am I justified in saying far more kn0bs ride fixies in the current craze than other bikes? (those who ride track or use them for training I'm very sorry). I'm not against this as it makes silly cyclists easier to avoid - see someone riding a fixie, give them some more space. He can't be the sharpest tool in the box riding a TT frame with aero wheels but wearing baggy clothes and a large bag on his back, he probably thinks it looks cool on his ride back from Urban Outfitters, maybe he's on his way to an alleycat.
When did you notice him pulling out? It's easy to point out in hindsight, but you carry on pedalling for a few seconds after the van starts to move.
I think you haven't watched enough of the video ;)
