So was there enough space to pass on the inside? If so then it is totally crazy, if not then she is obviously a very impatient twonk,
It's a fair question CT. Actually I didn't do a 'lifesaver'. And I know very well what a lifesaver is and do it all the time - on the bike and in the car.
Since there was enough space to drive a bus up my LH side and the cars in the oncoming lane had literally just gone by it didn't cross my mind. She really threw her car into that opening gap between me and the passing cars. It didn't cross my mind that (a) a car could even fit in there (b) someone would be so dumb as to try.
I've been crossing this junction in exactly the same way every working day for two years - no one has ever pulled this move on me.
Should I do so from now on? I probably should, just to take account of the one moron in a million.
It really gets up my goat that we are obliged to adapt our behaviour to account for their effing idiocy.
Grrr and Grrr.
There is nothing to gain from being in the right if you are dead, as a cyclist you have to accept that you are a vulnerable road user and act accordingly.

You're absolutely correct, but I reserve the right to feel bitter and resentful about it.
Life's too short for all that, glad you are ok, now smile and have a bacon sandwich.
You should have stayed there and called the police. Drivers like that NEED to be given points and fines. They won't do it again if they lose their licence.
