No one has mentioned getting an Airzound. A lot cheaper than a helmet cam and would actually do something to prevent a scrote being squished under your wheels by giving them a loud warning. Just a thought.
Ive got both.

Well I think we're out in the sticks a bit here in Coventry compared to London, but I did see a cyclist with said camera for the first time today. To me, that steps everything up from an enjoyable ride to looking for, or at least anticipating confrontation. I think a still camera will do for the situations in which I do want to take images, which is normally of crap facilities than of direct conflicts - or at least I hope so!

The cyclist will be to blame, same as if you were in a car.

I understood this was an assumed convention, rather than law, as in Netherlands and so on. It reminds me of the law in Saudi Arabia where if you were in a road accident with a local, it was automatically deemed your fault just for being in the country. And if you caused death, big cash pay out - not sure if insurance would have covered that - if so, considering their horrific driving standards, premiums would have been sky high.

Funnily enough I've just come from watching on of our own t-bone a kid. Totally the kid's fault, and a mother with an attitude that really stinks. I bet he's glad he had a camera running.

I saw before. His mother needs running over, not her son! Surprised this thread is still going

That video is exactly why i want one - what if that kid got hurt and blamed the big bad cyclist?

Does that Stealth X5 HD Wide™ 720p Helmet Action Camera (Black) Look like it could be a differently badged Dogcam, for less ££ ?

+ 1 on insurance as said up thread

Everyone who cycles on the road should have at least 3rd party insurance. Cost about 40p a week and your covered.

CTC, BC, being some of many orgs offering the service

Indeed. I've got 3rd party through CTC so at least I've got that up to a million quid (not that I'm planning on causing that much damage but still....)

I'm going for the Contour Roam when I get the money. I've got a helmet mount for it, I just need the camera now.

I might get one of those cheaper ones for a rear camera though, they look an ideal size for being slung under a rack or off a seat post.

Thank you very much for the advice!

I'm skint at the moment, i'm a student so I'm waiting on somebody paying me free money (not going to happen..) or selling some old drum equipment I've got laying around that's worth about a grand but I don't use but unfortunately, can't sell...

I can't even afford my Contour at the moment so another camera will have to wait as I promise my fiancee I'd buy her a decent point and shoot as her old one is well... crap.

MD80 (MUVI) import.

I have found out that with the Chinese imports,at least one camera I have, that you can connect an external power source into the usb port and it can be powered from there.Tested last night,it was still on at 3am when I woke up (it had been on for four hours).Going to use it today.Picked up the tip off of the internet.

Yet to try it with other imported MD80's.

http://md80instructions.co.uk/

The MD80 camera has a built-in Lithium Polymer battery that is supposed to last about two hours. This is charged using the Mini-USB port on the bottom of the camera, either from your computer’s USB port, or using the mains adaptor usually supplied. It is recommended to charge it fully before first use. I have yet to discover how it lets you know it is fully charged. Though the battery is soldered on, various people have added larger capacity batteries. Check out the MD80 Camera Useful Links page for more information. I have also heard reports that if you hold down the Record button while plugging in a USB cable, it will run from the USB power without going into Mass Storage mode or Webcam mode.

Weird about wanting to remove the timestamp,I actually like it,as it helps me keep track of my videos.
