Bigfattallbloke, I think tim is right on the money,

Get yourself a proper bike fit, setting up a bike takes a lot of experience and is beyond trail and error for a beginner.

For example, if you need a different stem to sort it out, how high, how long? An experienced fitter will work out the optimal angle for your knees and adjust your saddle accordingly. This really is money well spent.

I think getting a set up will reward your enjoyment of cycling no end, as you get fitter and stronger you will probably tolerate more aero positions. Remember though that riding in a painful tuck is going to be slower than riding pain free in a less aero position.

Also don't underestimate your neck, it needs to be looked after!
