Need a price on My Old Allez

Hi All

Looking for advice on what a fair price would be for my 2010 Allez Sport, this has a fully upgraded 105 Group set , standard wheels and Mavic Kaysium Equipe Wheels. I was asking £650 as reckon bike is worth 300 and upgraded bits about 350.

The sale is to fund some race wheels and maybe a crank upgrade on the MTB.

That's the simplest way to get an idea of what a particular item is selling for

Problem is the extra bits as Bike has been changed from stock, ebay price is for a totally different specification. But agree ebay gave me price guide for bike on its own

Anything is only worth what someone will pay. The trouble with mods is you tread a line that is easy to overstep, (trust me on this one ) My bike stands at way over the original price, but I know I'd never get it back if I sold it. If someone is looking for your particular bike model, then that is what they want. If they stumble across one with mods for very similar money, happy days for them, but IME they are unlikely to pay much more as they might as well just buy the next model up if you see what I mean.
If you've got the original parts it may be worth restoring it to standard spec and selling any of the mods you don't want to keep separately, you always get more for components than you do for bikes.

Good point, will try selling to guys in club if not will drop price. Being honest may just save up and keep Allez as winter bike, trainer. It's been a good reliable ride and I spent a lot of time and money on getting it just right.

Well that just talked me out of selling it :-)

I was told - and i'm not sure if it's true or not but it seems reasonable - that a bike loses 50% in it's first year and 10% every year after. Agree with smokey that ebay may not be the best forum for selling hand built bikes unless you're lucky to find a buyer who understands that extent of the upgrades.

I sold a hybrid on ebay and above theory would have valued it at £220 and i got £170 for it.

Try Gumtree. Put it in all the areas close to you and pad the ad' out-I don't mean tell lies but give plenty of information so people feel they are buying something special.
I have just sold 2 bikes on there and got quite close to what I was wanting.

decided to separate out the bits, £400 for the bike seems reasonable and will keep the posh wheels for trainers. ebay is good enough guide and actually dropping spec and price attracted more interest. However hope nobody does buy it as enjoying taking it out on commute at moment.
