What he actually said was.
'F*** me look at this.. Clanger **** everywhere !!'

What we heard was dubbed.

I gather that the great Oliver Postgate was against broadcasting the episode in which an astronaut lands on the Clangers' planet just before the (or at least a) moon landing just in case the moonshot ended badly making the clangers seem in very poort taste - but they went ahead anyway, but all was well.

(i am old enough to remember the moon landings and recall the Clangers episode being a particularly good one)

I don't remember sitting up late to watch the moon landings. I do remember sitting up late to watch the Neil Armstrong tributes though.

Well young 'un. I did sit up and was totally wiped out all the next day at work because I'd had less than 2 hours sleep. Couldn't help smiling though!

You will have to marry her now.

You probably made her pregnant too, or at the very least you got her cooties!!
RIP, a great man with probably THE most misquoted piece of dialogue of all time.
Along with a certain Jack Swiggert and Jim Lovell on Apollo 13.

Moving on swiftly past the inexplicable (and frankly inexcusable) lederhosen

Its ok so long as you didn't actually choose/buy and insist on wearing it yourself!!

Actually this was debunked by Snopes in 2001. He actually said "Lads, there's someone already up here and he's got a spoon for a head and a rocket made out of a de-branded baked beans tin"

Ah yes, Button Moon, the Children's TV show with a budget of about 12P!!

I'm dismayed that you've looked at the photo long enough to notice....

LONG ENOUGH TO NOTICE??

I noticed it instantly man!! (And rather wish I hadn't).

Really, its like a lot of pictures like that - I notice things like that straight away, and yet others..... I mean, what the hell are you all looking at before something as blindingly obvious to me grabs your attention????:whistle:

People go on about @Fnaar, but really, I'm probably worse and don't you forget it!! :giggle:
I look at most things at least once, and that was a classic example, so there!

America's alternative take on that momentous event, via The Onion *caution rude words in big letters*

About as 'hilarious' as a cup of cold sick, sorry.

I was 6 months old at the time, my mum tells me she and my dad had a bit of a squabble about whether to wake me up or not to so I could watch it, she won and I stayed asleep.

My Dad was 20something, and went to bed because he thought there would be other more important missions in the future.

What mission would that be Father, a mission to the f*cking sun??!!

His stupidity never ceases to amaze me.
