I've got an intermittment problem with my netbook. Sometimes when I'm running it on just the battery the screen isn't as bright as normal. It only happens occasionally, but not because the battery is low. Any suggestions?

Check the power settings. I'm not aware of what operating system you are using so i can't guide you towards them.

+1 indeed, sounds like a Power Saving setting somewhere. These normally kick in when the pc is not doing much, or it thinks the job it is doing can get away with a dim screen (e.g. pc is idle) which can a pain while reading or watching something. Opening a new window or wiggling the mouse often wakes it up a bit.

If you are never far from a power socket, turn it all off

Are you running ubuntu or mint by any chance? I had a problem with my asus eee and have to hit f5 to brighten. Seems fixed in latest release.

Many systems try and use less power when on battery and a darker screen is an option to do this.

Most netbooks do this

I am with Gaz on this. My Laptop does this when running on Battery.

if you are running windows then all the settings to adjust are in the power settings in control panel. Its easy for even the most computer illiterate person to change the settings to a sensible duration.

I know it goes dim to save the battery. What's happening is that when I 'wake' it from this state it only gets slightly brighter, not as bright as it should be. I'm running Windows XP. I had a look at the powersaving options but couldn't see anything obvious. I'm happy for it to continue dimming itself when I haven't used it for a few minutes. I just want it to wake up properly!

My netbook has the power save settings too, have you tried manually brightening the screen? On my Samung I hold the Fn button and press the 'up' arrow.

I'll try that next time. Thanks.
