Welcome to the dark side!!
The Genesis Smithfield was delivered earlier today.
First impressions are good. The bike is immaculate, as you would hope. The battery was at 20 per cent and is accepting charge.
A quick spin up the road was impressive. Very smooth power and plenty of it. The weight and big tyres give it a very different feeling from any bike I've had before. This is my first bike with hydraulic brakes - there's no going back.
Photos and more info to follow.
I'm 5 trouble free years in on my Subway E.
Weight of an ebike doesn't come into play whilst riding with assistance. Only when lifting
Mine weighs around 40Kg with panniers and kit loaded up. Don't feel it at all, when seated riding, a bit different when standing up power up hills to keep legs strong
The weight of mine is pretty irrelevant - as you say - when riding
does become a problem when riding on some paths with barriers
I have come across a few where I nearly had to turn back as I couldn;t get round it
with a light normal bike I could have lifted it over
there was one where I took the saddle bag and battery off and just managed to get the bike over the thing
and I do feel that cycle storage where you hang it off the front wheel might be a problem??
Mine is 22-25kg and I use that type of storage at work. I do remove the battery and water bottle (I won't leave the battery on anyway at work in case of fire) but it seems to hang ok. I weigh move than 4 times the weight of the bike and its not crumbled yet under me I think I'm ok.![]()
Hmm, I think I'll keep it simple and buy the Carrera.
I bought a Momentum E3+ a few months ago. You should read some reviews. Owned by Giant and it shows in the build quality.
I'm loving it but ,my needs could be different from yours, the battery is only removeable with tools, for example , but it is a high qualty panasonic battery and i can deal with that if need be

First ride on the new bike today. Only about 4 miles, but enough to be happy that the bike fits and functions well. Also enough for Ms AU to tell me my Carradice panniers need to be replaced with something more in keeping. We'll see.
