Just wasted 45p trying to buy a cup of coffee from a machine because two of the new 5 pence coins are either too thick or don't weigh the same. F****** b******** Why do they do this?

To save themselves money. About 5p.

The new 5 and 10p coins are now made from steel rather than cupro-nickel to save money so all coin machines need to be adjusted as they are of a different weight, thickness and electromagnetic signature. Unfortunately not everyone is as speedy on adjusting their machines as we would like.

45p!! Just paid £1.85 in Cafe Nerd (sorry, Nero) for a cup and it wasnt brilliant

£1.85, I pay £1.95 at Caffé Nero!

Anyway, I got another 5p and no one else had got to the coffee machine before me, so

Still, why is it necessary to start minting 5p's in steel instead of cupro-nickle, causing everyone cost and aggravation?

Why, are there a lot more 5p's than there used to be? I remember when 5p's were proper 5p's, twice the size they are now.

the actual cost of the materials in the cupronickel 5p was more thatn the cost of the plated version. its a global economics thing

Our work's vending machine doesn't accept them either!
Went to buy a bag of crisps (50p) and my last 5p wouldnt work...Didnt have any other coins, so ended up getting on my hands and knees to see if any stray coins had rolled under the machine - struck lucky and found a 10p piece and used that!
