I am going to do LEJOG next May/June time. Which is the perfect excuse to get a new bike. I currently own a Boardman Hybrid for commuting & Boardman Carbon Road for the weekends. Both on the cycle to work scheme. I am thinking of the new Boardman CX Team 2014:

Mainly because I have only had Boardman bikes in the past. Apart from Halfords service, have had good experience with the bikes. I am looking to spend just under £1000. Are there any other alternatives, I will mainly be using the bike in the winter & for longer tours / rides in the future.

Not sure how I will get the new bike past the wife thou...

Thanks for any recommendations!!!

Can you put a rack on it?

The Genesis Croix de fer scored very highly in this month's touring bike test in Cycling Active. It does suggest that on hills, a triple would be handy. That would go for the Boardman too though

A bit over budget at £1150 but you may be able to negotiate (assuming it's not C2W, although even then you can sometimes add a few £££)

Perfect winter bike I'd say if you don't mind black ;)

What extra does the £2k model give? Is it the better steel and 105 groupset, better brakes, wheels?

The silver is of course preferable to the black ;)

Why don't you use one of the bikes you have already and save £2000.

Do you intend to do this self supported, are you camping, hotels or B&Bs. Are you doing it as fast as you can or a leisurely ride?

All these things make a difference in what type of bike you need. But you don't need a 2 grand bike to do it.

Ive just seen this in the cyclist:

Im debating getting this now as looks really nice! But not sure If you can fit both a rear rack & mudgaurds on.

Would then double up as a brilliant winter bike

PM @musa or just go to their Sheen or Sutton stores, the website suggests so

I'll Get Me Coat combines all the benefits of a titanium race frame with the added practicality of mudguard eyelets and rack compatibility; this makes it an ideal bike for the daily commute, winter training or sportive rides. The I'll Get Me Coat geometry has been designed from the expertise of our Cyclefit team, offering a more comfort orientated front end without reducing the efficiency of the ride. Take the guards off and you would never know it was anything different other than a light weight race machine!

Be aware it's £3k (and could be more depending on how you spec it) not £2k ... being titanium and all that

Thanks for everyones replies.

Biggs & Stevie - I want to get another bike to use for the winter too - its not just for LEJOG. Then I will have my Hybrid for commuting, Road for better weather cycling & my new one for winter & longer day rides / touring.

Thanks Vickster I really like the Pearsons bikes, I think I will just go into the sheen store & see what they can offer me. My budget will depend on if I get my Bonus for2013.
