Actually, I wouldn't recommend it seriously. The saddle does take on your shape quite quickly, but it's never been quite the same again.

9 Months on, my brooks has broken in and is now acceptable. Phew.

Brooks saddles do not "break in" your bottom does
Absolutely.

First you should have a B-17 shaped bottom. Then a thousand miles to refine the fit. Result ecstasy.

I ridden Brooks for 30 years. Recently fitted two new ones. No need to break, feel just the same as the oldest one instantly - which suggests I now have a carefully honed undercart and the saddles themselves have no need to adjust. The only thing that doesn't feel sore after 100 miles is my bum.

I guess the moral is if your bits ain't Brooks compatible, don't bother suffering ...

I have a B17 standard on the commuter and it was a joy to sit on from day 1.
I also have a B17 narrow (NOS from 1979) which would not soften.
Remained like new for mile after mile, good for about 30 miles when I would find myself getting restless and shifting about in the saddle a lot; by 40 I was thinking about walking and by 50 I couldn’t. General advice on the forums was ‘stick with it’ so I did, for months.

This continued until it got a real soaking on an Audax. Finished the event and the leather was saturated. I left the leather to dry naturally for a about week in the garage, rubbed in some proof hide and suddenly it’s a superbly comfortable perch.

It got another soaking on Sunday (3 Glens) so I am quite looking forward to my Saturday morning foray into the hinterlands of Fife to see if there is a further improvement.

wee on it and then go for a ride , thats what they did in the war to soften the leather boots and make them fit better .make sure you put on good water proofs before you ride it .
