New chain

Hi, I have just been given a1980s pashley postmans bike but it has no chain.how do I know what size chain I need for this bike.it is a single speed bike. Many thanks kev.

Just search for a single speed chain. It will be 1/8" wide and remove excess links as required (assuming you have a chain splitter tool).

Ohh, nice gift as above 1/2 x 1/8" should fit the bill. Any pics,?

If the original chainring and rear sprocket are particularly worn, you may find the drivetrain very noisy once you fit a new chain as they will not mesh together well. It will sound like a cement mixer full of nails when you peddle hard.

If so you'll need to budget for the replacement chainring, rear sprocket and freewheel removal tool (if you don't have one already).
