I am looking for a new Compact camera to take on rides with me. I want a camera and not a mobile phone or DSLR as I already have them.

I have a budget of £350.

Has anyone got any recommendations?

I had the first version of this and loved it! Compact, brilliant quality and colour and a host of features such as wifi for uploading on the go (if that's your thing)

Have a look at a Fujifilm X30. Bit of a retro style but lovely ergonomics, well built and gives you a lot of control. It has neither the largest sensor nor biggest zoom, actually both are quite modest, but takes great pictures and makes you feel good!

I have long been a fan of the Canon powershot series, especially if it's a camera you are taking with you in a bar bag. I Have a G11 and a G1X and really can't fault them. They offer nearly all the functionality of a DSLR and the G1X (which is admittedly above our budget) is especially good in low light. They are also wonderfully versatile if you want to photograph youself on a cycling tour.

I am with the two posts above - Panasonic Lumix. Lovey to use, all the gadgets are easy to set up if needed or just great as a switch it on and click.

They seem to get a really good optical zoom into a small camera too.

Well, it isn't your hand that is going to render light into pixels, nor does an aesthetically pleasing camera necessarily take good pictures. Better to get an understanding of the tech specs so you know what you're looking at, and if the camera in question is likely to meet your needs.

The Fuji X20 is great, I'm sure the X30 is probably an upgrade although the sensor, lens and processor are the same, it depends on how compact a camera you want, the X20 is quite a chunky little camera and I think the X30 is a bit bigger. If it fits the bill though its first rate.
