I use leg warmers with my regular cycling shorts/bib shorts, and have done through some very cold winters. I am considering getting some proper bib tights but they're generally a little pricy so will be interested to see what people have to say about them.

Bib shorts and leg warmers until it is really 'baltic', then I have a pair of unpadded cycle tights which go over the top of the bib shorts. But to be honest, my leg warmers are excellent and I prefer them.

The problem with bib tights with a pad is that you need to wash them daily. If the tights are worn as an 'over- garment' you can get away with washing them less frequently. It is generally quicker to wash a pair of lycra bib shorts - and I have more of them so can keep cycling on more days rather than wait for a pair of padded tights to dry.
