Getting excited by this. The council has begun constructing a cycle path about a 100 yds from where I live. It's not going to be a particularly long one,but it runs along the bottom of our estate and cuts off a bit of a corner that the normal road follows. Shame they didn't start it in the spring so it could be ready for summer but nonetheless I'm looking forward to a bit of silky smooth tarmac to ride up town on.

Oh dear, prepare for an invasion of ne'er do wells, peace shattered, litter, you know what these cyclists are like:sad:
Improved access to town, more people cycling to the shops, fewer cars on the road, great! ^_^.

100 yards away ?
Have you got an icecream maker ? can you make cakes/sarnies etc? I see a small fortune to be made

The same thing happened around here , loads of paths getting done through the park and nature reserve . I was so excited until they dressed the paths with loose gravel

Silky smooth? The Essex contractors must be better than the Warwickshire ones. In Warwickshire all that needs adding to your picture is some badly painted white lines and a lampost or two in the middle of the mud and the job would be completed.
You forgot the gravel

Wait for all the mountain bikers to start complaining about the Council sanitising their favourite routes!

Thanks for all the " positive " replies! ^_^
But you are all of course correct that however well intentioned and good this could be for people and their families, it is sad that inevitably it will be hijacked by motorbikes, yobs standing around making it difficult to pass, litter and indeed some of our own using it like a training circuit.
Shame but who knows, we may be proved wrong.
