Hi guys,
I am new to CycleChat and I have just purchased a B'twin Triban 3 red road bike. I am open to opinions on this bike model and was hoping for advice about using this bike. I live in an area with undulating roads and was wondering whether this bike is ideal for climbing steep roads. Thanks in advance.

I too own a red Triban 3. Mine will get this over weight 55 year old up any hill I care to climb. They are rather heavy but don't look on that as a negative but has extra resistance training! The only thing I would say is be careful of the standard brake blocks, they struggle in the wet. I swopped mine out for some fancy once.

Bike is well though of on the forum . Climbing steep hills comes down to fitness and how low a gear you got yours seem to have a nice range so you should be OK .Just use a low gear and spin even if its slow you can winch yourself up most hills

red triban is a good value bike. wheel bearings will need re lubing from factory and the standard brake blocks need changing for koolstops. apart from that a brilliant entry level bike and I still have its predecessor the Sport 1 ! Daughter has the triban 3 and loves it

Welcome.

The triban is a bit of a cult bike, so good choice. Its low cost and relatively well specced.

Its price is held by the deployment of own brand items like rims and brakes.

From my experience of fellow riders, the bits all work together as well, if not better than many other comparably priced bikes.

If I recall, you may want to check lubeing on bearings as I recall the French being a little light on the use of grease. Otherwise, check the brake blocks do the job in the wet and crack on.

Keep in mind that the above advice is also relevant to just about all new bikes so don't for one minute think that yours is especially at risk of having dry bearings or cheap blocks.

Compared to most bicycles they are incredibly light at about 10kg. I had one and used it on tours too, at 53 I had no problem getting up any climbs in the very hilly Yorks Dales. Great bike for the money.

From the online specs, I assume it has a triple crank set (three chainwheels at the front) so you will have a better gear ratio than most (other cyclists on road bikes) to get up the steep hills of London.
