The mistake they're making is having each episode a one off. In the old series each one was usually a four parter, each about 25 minutes long. The episodes now are 50 minutes, equivalent to two 25 minutes episodes in old money so the story line's not as good.

They do sometimes have 2 parters, which would match the old 4 parters, iyswim.

And when the story was bad, 4 episodes took an awfully long time to get through.

I prefer Matt Smith to David Tennant. I think he's a lot more alien, and a lot less running around.
First episode is always an awkward one. This one was OK, but expecting things to get better. Of course it was never as good as we remember, but watching some old post-Tom Baker ones, they really were badly written and not particularly well acted.
My favourite Doctor/Dalek episode is still the Christopher Ecclestone one (first one where he sees a Dalek under the Millenium Stadium). The sense of naked fear when he saw it was really threatening. Since then, I've never got the feeling that the Doctor has ever been that frightened, merely spoiling for a good fight.

I agree. The Doctor needs to be more scared and less cocky when confronted with the Daleks to make it more convincing.

Well, I quite liked it.
SPOILER
The ending did remind me of the one of the Cybermen ones, where they had the emotion inhibitor devices switched off and could see what they had been turned into. The Dalek screaming 'I am not a Dalek' was somewhat sad. I didn't quite see that coming...
Well written overall, I thought.

I thought it was about time that the true "Doctor" had a say!
And from your position as the original "Doctor"; who do you consider to be the best impersonator, Ecclestone, Tennant, Baker, et all.

Heh-heh.
Tom Baker was the original Doctor IMHO, in that I barely remember Pertwee or anyone earlier. Peter Davison I had huge problems with, largely because I was used to him as Tristan in 'All Creatures Great and Small'. I kept expecting to see him with his arm up a Dalek's arse...
Of the new Doctors, Tennant was excellent - just (only just) better than Ecclestone.
Matt Smith has been growing on me though. I personally reckon the entire Matt Smith era got off to a shaky start - the new choral mix of the theme music and Amy Pond annoyed me - but it's got better as it went on.

I thought "the Predator" was a bit much!
I know!!! And since when would the Daleks ever have a "parliament"? Aren't they supposed to be evil totalitarian genocidal bastards? When did they decide to get all democratic?!?

Charles I had a parliament, and didn't he fight for the divine right of kings.

Ah well, Peter Cushing's Doctor was a film-only thing, and he invented the Tardis (rather than stealing it).
I think he was also human, rather than Gallifreyan, and wasn't a Time Lord.
In short, it's not 'canon' and isn't part of the conventional Whoniverse.
I'll get my anorak.

So, in the one word test, the answer would be ''yes!''

She's not a talented actress but I reckon a good percentage of the audience will be prepared to overlook this.
