I have just clicked very quickly through some of the countries and apart from France you seem not to have visited anywhere worth going to, well according to your Blog.

It appears you have visited many countries but have not spent any time in them to find out what they are like.

A rather peculiar comment.

Do read the book - free sample available on amazon.

If Steven hasn't visited any of the countries clearly I must have dreamt about them for, mysteriously, after reading his seriously good book I was inspired to visit several of them and now have several Bradt guides sat by my bed.

Thank you for all the lovely comments. I'm so glad that people are enjoying the book.

And steveindenmark, yes, there were some countries in which it would have been nice to spend longer but on the web site I've tried to point out when my opinion is based on only a few days' travel. Given that the whole ride was limited to Europe and consisted of 472 days of cycling I must have been somewhere long enough to form an opinion. And I visited loads of places worth going to. Europe is amazing, but for me the best is in the east - pretty scenery, quirky cities, cheap and tasty food and beer, and friendly people.

The book is not a minute by minute log of the 472 days which would be incredibly boring. It is inspirational and has made me think about countries that perhaps i would not have considered cycle touring. It's certainly given me itchy feet and i wish July 2015 was closer because that's when my next tour is.

Plus it's damn funny :laugh::thumbsup:

+1 to all this. There are some truly deadly cycling tales alomg the lines of "then i did this, then i did that". I was reading a book at the same time as steve's which had a certain flavour of that. The attempts to spice the narrative with the odd joke also virtually always fell flat. I won't mention the book but i was pretty glad when he reached his destination. I look forward to steve's next book though hope he isn't tempted to hype his style too much.

Ps - you never know hill wimp i may bump into you.

Between 2011 and 2013, I cycled 22,000 miles (35,500 km) around 53 countries of Europe. I've put together a site (www.UniCycle50.com) about what I learnt in the hope that it is useful for others in future. But, more importantly, I could do with your input. If you have an opinion about a particular country or route, good or bad, or a blog that contains that information, please let me know about it and I will try to absorb your information into what I have written (even, or especially, if it says the opposite of what I've written) so that the site is not just limited to what I think. That'd be wonderful.

Cheers,
Steven
Nice site, really enjoyed it. Lots of good information. I've popped a couple of replies on.
Your book sounds interesting too, look forward to reading it. I have one out as well about cycling, busking and wild camping in Northern England, should you fancy it. E-book on amazon- At Home in the Bushes by Thompson Crowley.
Cheers
Keep on pedalling!
