New Fixed Project

FYI John, here are pics of the ones I've done. The first two were complete restoration jobs.

First up was an 80's Peugeot that I did a fixed conversion on. It was re-sprayed and finished with retro decals.

Then another 80's Peugeot that I did a modern 10 speed conversion on, again re-sprayed in white with retro decals.

The next pic gives you an idea of the finish you can achieve with spray paint, although TBH mine were all professionally sprayed and baked by a mate who owns a vehicle repair workshop

This last one was a sympathetic Dawes restoration as there was no way I could afford to replicate the original paint finish.

I do tend to get carried away with fit and finish TBH, and as such any initial budget I set does tend to get obliterated, so you can see why Mrs Smoo wouldn't be too happy if I announced a new resto plan.

Still thinking though ;)

I cannot express how impressed i am, excellent work! I have done a little research and I will be persisting with the brush finish Hammermite for the following reasons:

1. I am stubborn.
2. I am less concerned than most with the finish as the purpose of the bike is primarily winter training.
3. I have heard that home spray jobs tend to chip whereas brush finishes are more hardy.

I fancy myself as being half decent with a paintbrush but we shall see... I'll post up a photo when its done...

Incidentally, hammermite suggests it does not need a primer,, but i got one anyway. The Primer i have chosen is 'U-Pol Acid #8 1k etch primer. I was hoping to use these products together but am a little concerned that they might not be compatible - any thoughts?

I thank you

TBH, no. I don't mean to sound harsh by that, but the reason is that whilst I prepped the frame, even filled cable holes and ground off shifter bosses and braze ons on the first one, I then chucked them at my mate to get painted. I'm not even sure what sort of paint he used TBH

I don't see a problem with either of those John, just make sure your BB length is OK and they should be fine.

Have a look at THIS Stronglight one as well from Planet X, the price has gone up quite a chunk since I last bought one but they are excellent.

Yes, this looks excellent and i will certainly rather go with a recommendation. I am putting in a new BB but as your probably coming to realise, I am not great with bike tech. All i know is its a 68mm shell. When i look at THIS compatible BB - its asking me to specify length and thread etc...!?!?

I appreciate that I am asking you a lot of questions particauly as you have been very helpful already. I won't be offended if you'd rather not get bogged down in them...!
