Looking at this thread very closely. CAAD10 disc is available at Evans for £369 as of 06/01/16. Not sure if that's something you'd be interested in.

I've had a look for 'good' aluminium frames, but the generic websites throw up £500+ frame sets.

Nope, quality. It's not a Specialized where you are paying for massive marketing and pro sponsorship deals

Quality is quality, irrespective of price. I have several frames which are quality builds and not an extra penny was spent on the name, advertising or pro sponsorship.
Same reason that I don't own a Specialized.
Pleased that you enjoy your Condor, but you are paying a premium price for the perceived cache.

Low production runs are what cost. Steel frames were cheap as chips when there was a mass market for them.

Definitely. I can remember the 'new' aluminium frames being priced right at the top of the range, when steel bikes were everywhere...

when some idiot wrote off my tatty old 531 steel framed bike, insurance wanted quote for like-for-like replacement. lbs put quote in for £2000, as only mercian were able to supply a 531 steel frame in the right colour (black). frameset only cost me £50 and the insurance offered £1400; i also got to keep the old bike and reuse most of the spares

I'm always in two minds about such a scenario. The insurance company does not pay out. It's the rest of us who pay through increased premiums.

Steel frames, well the foreign made ones. Are these made on CNC machine now rather than hand made and if so should be fairly cheap to produce? There are still a lot of new steel frames on the market.
