New helmet needed, should i pay 30 quid or 70 quid?

A helmet's a helmet, there isn't much difference between them. Try one on before you buy it, you don't want something that you'll be wearing all of the time to be uncomfortable.

I looked at a number of Bell & Giro helmets. The Giro's had less comfortable straps.

I then had a closer look at the 4 Bell models ranging from £45 to over £100 and honestly struggled to spot the difference. Bought the £45 jobbie here:

Light, comfy and seems well ventilated although all bonces sweat when working hard.

I have no idea why some helmets cost so much tbh.

Cheap ones are usually bigger and uglier. Not that any helmet is exactly cool looking, but the more expensive models do tend to be sleeker.

Having said that though you really need to try a few on and see which models fit YOUR head. I have a Giro shaped head. I've tried Bell and Specialized and various others, but they just don't feel right.
