New job required before I self distrust

So I have been working in the hospitality industry for far to long now. I have grown to hate getting out of bed to go to my current employment which is never good.
These days it is so hard to find a job around life what happened to the 7am start 3 finish Monday to Friday so weekends could be spent with family. Just now my hours are ok work 8am to 5pm one week 8:30 am to 5:30pm then do every third sat but this will soon be changing to 5 over 7 and with kids it's useless. P's sorry for the rant but had to vent my frustration somewhere suppose I'm on the job hunt asap try find something better.

Self Employment. Its a pain at times but there are a lot of benefits when it comes to family time.

Self employment, means instead of one boss you have lots of them, otherwise known as customers. I have a little experience of being self employed as this is my fortieth year at it.

I must admit it is only now that I wish I had been a civil servant, as the last 40 years have been mostly enjoyable work wise, I have changed my business model many times over those years though.

Why not look at some part time college courses to see if you can train you do something different. I know how you feel, I went thro a particularly bad mis-managed restructure and found it particularly hard to pick myself up when the company relocated me to another role. I'm only just getting my mojo back but found it hard to get out of bed for quite a while. I have spent the last 6 months quite depressed to be honest and haven't really told anyone how I feel. Things are starting to get better now but its partly because I have a new, more suitable role. You don't have to make any rash decisions but exploring other options might give you something to aim for. And if you find a course, going to the same job to bring in your bills money while you study may not seem so bad when there is light at the end of the tunnel

I might be having some of that all , supplemented by standing around in B&Q chatting for 10 hours a week. Or the trolleys at Tesco.

Trust me, you really don't. I wish I'd taken the job offer at Hughes when I got my postgrad. 6 figure salary, sunnier climes, but I didn't want to cause problems for the ex wife who herself was doing ok as a company director.

Wish now I'd told her to shove it and gone west, but you can only do what sits comfortable at the time. I've no regrets.

Retirement sounds good to me but by the time I reach the age of current retirement it will need to wait another 20 years to retire.
