New job time...................

For all those on CC who know me, (and indeed for anyone who doesn't but is interested), after almost 20 years in the motor trade I have given my notice and will be starting a new job in early July as a Drainage Engineer.

I've done a bit in the dim and distant past, but this time round will be doing my class 2 LGV licence as well, so that's something for me to get my teeth into.

So if anyone has any drain related issues, business or personal, give me a shout.

PS: wonder if I should ask Shaun to change my name to smokeyPoo :becool:

Good luck.

Have had a few drainage problems in the past on my rented house so will bear you in mind if we have similar problems in the future.

IIRC 400 you're in the Trafford area and the firm I worked for years ago used to have a contract with TBC so I've spent many a hour digging out manholes on Washway Road and the surrounding area

Good luck I hope it all goes really well for you. I am actually quite envious of you as I am generally not very happy at work and would dearly love to take a completely different path but dependants and debts prohibit such a move at the moment.

Having said that, the likelihood of me wanting to start a new career freeing up other peoples seized turds is remote. What made you choose this as a new line of work?

I might have a job for you, pokeypoo. I was emptying a child's paddling pool that had become contaminated with a lot of birdshit this evening. And a toy car managed to get lost down the toilet. It won't have gone very far. Could you come and give me a quote?

Good luck with your new job. I've always liked anything to do with running water, myself. I've been lucky to have been paid to dig ditches and build culverts in the past.

There's more to it than that TBH. They do every aspect of drainage, from jetting blockages, re-lining pipes in-situ and camera surveys to full drain replacements and septic tank emptying etc, etc, etc, chances are no two days will be the same, and they are paying for me to do my class 2 LGV licence as well

As the old saying goes, it's a dirty job but somebody has to do it, and after so long trapped in a job and an industry that has left me completely disillusioned it will be like a breath of fresh air, well maybe not quite but you get my drift

TBH I'm pretty nervous, especially now I've got a copy of the LGV Theory Test to learn . I was lucky though as I know the owner, my BIL works there and my Father worked there in the offices until he retired, so we all know each other really well, but I do still feel like I'm taking a huge step, but I got to the stage that happiness, peace of mind and general well being had to come first.

Do you do that remote control camera work, checking for cracks and where the drain goes and stuff? Very clever all that.

.

Just how I felt when I quit the PhD, and the job collecting recycling came up the same week. I really do get fresh air though!

Good luck!
