The N Wales contingent will be along. They do exist!

I'm about 20mi S of Chester on the A41. I have a Performer 20/26 2W recumbent.

Welcome to the Dark Side !

What recumbent do you have?

Hi. Thanks for the welcomes. I have a Ovel Velocita, no id never heard of one before either. Cant find much info on them except that there were only 40 made, they are prone to cracking and they cost £1500 in 1997. Great bike though. Ive only had it a couple of months, my first recumbent was a homemade Cruzbike style and my second was a TWbents(think it was called a Focus). I have been recumbentless for about 3 years before I bought the Velocita. I had forgot how much attention they get from people, not all good.
Im hoping that there may be fellow recumbent riders lurking around N.Wales or maybe some localish cycling events.

^_^Thanks for saying hello. This seems a very active forum. Lots of good advice. Just found out how to add the emoticons.

IIRC Ovel were a wheelchair manufacturer and took to making Velocitas when they bought the design rights. Interesting looking bents - but not without their potential problems.

Yes ive heard about the frames snapping and suppose i took a bit of a gamble buying it. When i got it home i crack detected the frame and it seemed ok. I have had a bit of a tinker around with it and amongst other things i have added some seat stays bolted between the drop outs and the backrest of the seat. Hopefully they will be enough to take the pressure of the frame and stop any fatigue cracking. It certainly feel sturdy now. Its a painfull thought, frame collapsing at high speed, undercarriage dragging along the ground.

Well done.

Curiosity got me and I found an example on Preowned with the following text:

"For sale my Ovel Velocita recumbent.

OK first the history, or at least what I managed to find out when I bought it.

The Velocita was designed by Julian Higgs (some say formerly of Peugot bikes) and manufactured in the UK by an independent frame builder.
According to legend  there were only 40 frames manufactured, and of those, only 20 completed bikes sold. The rest of the frames were sold bare.

I have owned this superb recumbent for 2 years now and purchased it from a chap near Birmingham.
The chap who owned it previously was a design engineer and purchased it for its aesthetics, and only clocked around 200 miles on it.

When I bought it, it still had the original (and cracking) tyres on it and the suspension forks had dried up.
I rebuilt the forks and fitted it with a set of high quality touring tyres.

Last summer, I couldn't stay off of it and the few times I did manage to get out on the bike, I neglected the other two bikes in my garage.
This recumbent is a joy to ride. Its light (full aluminium frame), its quick, its responsive and superbly balanced.
The seat is very comfortable and the longest I've spent in it was around 8 hours without any problems.

As you can see its a Short Wheel Base design with Under Seat Steering.
The rider height adjustment is done by extending or retracting the main tube thereby moving the cranks closer or further away from the seat.
The tyres have been upgraded to Schwalbe Durango on the front and Schwalbe Marathon Plus on the back.
Its a 7 x 3 drive - 21 speed, with a Shimano STX crank, and Shimano Deore LX groupset.
The pedals are Shimano PD-M324 combination pedals - whereby one side can be clipped into a set of cleats and the other side of the pedal can be used with normal shoes."
