I currently have a specialsed rockhopper comp ht which is about 8 or 9 years old which cost 650.00 at the time, it has been a fantastic bike but now i am thinking whether to upgrade all of the parts, or whether to buy a new bike. I have spotted a 2010 specialised stumpjumper ht comp reduced from 1499.00 to 1199.00 and was thinking of buying it.
I would be grateful for any advice regarding whether to upgragde my existing bike?
Or any infor regarding the new bike, i.e. is it a good allround mountain bike? i am 5ft 8inch and my old bike is a 17 but the new bike only do a 17.5 would that make much of a difference?

look forward to any replies

Adding upgrades can be very expensive; in simple terms unless there is a reason you prefer the rockhopper frame I would suggest you buy the discounted stump. On the size fron, 1/2 should make no dif.
