Our last GSD regularly used to break out of his large open top pen as a young pup .He did this by biting the trigger which opened it up . Clever hound .
As soon as he was big enough he lived out at night in big kennel and run .It was his space . My first one some 35 years ago used to spend part of his day on our garage roof! First onto kennel roof ,followed by the shed & then the garage . He used to love watching the world go by .

Hopefully a new dog will be arriving in April . He will be a lot smaller .

Had our Retriever in a cage to start with at night . She was used to it in the litter. It lasted about 2 months before I eventually worked out she was better off with us. She’s now got the run of the house. However pups when young need to be kept somewhere safe for them and for the surroundings. Toileting etc .
