I suspect it's all done with CGI... no way can he be that good so young!!

Seriously though, you must be well proud of him. My youngest doesn't seem to have any interest in her balance bike yet (only just big enough to touch the floor whilst on the seat!!) and she's 3.5... hoping she takes to it soon so we have the Summer to get her started.

My lad was the same, we just left the balance bike (Islabike Rothan) in the house and eventually he got interested in it and pretty quick too, now banned from indoor cycling! Bought him the next Islabike up, the Cnoc, but I can't get him of the Roth and into having a go with pedals.

My little man. He got an Islabike CNOC 14 for his third birthday, and this month began the switch from his old balance bike to something with pedals. I spent 20 minutes with him in the street this evening, and am in full on super proud dad moment.

So, a little joy to share around.

Andy.

Fantastic! Brilliant Ted - well done. Balance, speed and road sense levels at astounding heights - Arallsoppwifey and Arallsopp top of the tree to you! Look forward to a junior version of the FNRttC soon (JRttPfaPaB - Junior Ride to the Park for a Picnic and Back) sort of thing!!

Must watch that vid again. It is awesome!

What a fantastic little vid!!

You must be so proud! Well done Ted!!!

My favourite bit is when he sprints off and away and you can see his little legs going so fast!

That was fabulous, mate. Thanks for sharing...

I love seeing the little 'uns on two wheels. He reminds me so much of my own (now grown up) little feller. And the music was spot on too. :bravo:

And Well Done Jnr! :bravo:

Well done Ted! Tell your Dad to let you come on the next London Ride, although you'll need to slow down a bit as some of use can't go that fast any more.

[Brought it all back for me Andy, it's a proud moment indeed]

Ted asked me the same question. When we discussed it, it turned out he'd developed a working hypothesis that feet weren't allowed to travel *along* the road, so pedestrian, scooter, balance bike, formerly his islabike have to stay on the pavement. Mummy, Daddy, Uncle Ian and Oliver don't put their feet down when they cycle, so they're allowed in the road. Cars and mopeds confirm the rule.

Now that he can pedal, he needed to know where to do it. I chose the pavement because it means we can ride to any of his friend's houses together without my having to worry about him (which is the very ride we subsequently did). He can't really differentiate between our part of the cul-de-sac and its continuation towards the main thoroughfare, so I figured pavement only was the best rule.

Thanks to Evey, he knows to stop at the junctions, and gives way to pedestrians sharing the path.

The one thing we found *after* we moved to the cul-de-sac was that the little traffic you get tends to be either long term resident (and blinded by familiarity) or a lost seeker of cut-throughs (who is invariably going too fast, forced into a hurried 3 point turn, then speeds back seconds later).

Our road goes from perfect calm to near fatal in seconds. If Evey and Ted didn't walk everywhere, I suspect he'd have no road sense at all.

Does that make sense?

Andy.

It was merely as the road "looked" lovely and quiet and without the bends that he coped with absolutely fine anyway. As you say then they may start to treat the road as an extension of the pavement or not differentiate between a quiet road and busy one. I grew up at the top of a cul-de-sac and as a child (older than Ted obviously) I loved cycling around it. Now I look at it and I'm not so keen as when I was a child everyone parked their one car on their drive whereas often each house has multiple cars and don't bother parking any of them on the drive. There are two young children who do loop around the top of the cul-de-sac still but their father's large van is on the road obscuring the view down the road and they just sail out from behind it assuming all is safe.

I know what you're saying there, friend. Our favourite day last year (well, perhaps with the exception of the birth of Ted's sister) was the day they resurfaced the close. All the cars were gone for two days, and it looked like 1976 had come back. The differences to potential dash-outs were amazing. Not only did you get an uninterrupted view of the pavement all the way down the street, you could see right up to most people's front doors. Obviously it came with its own set of giggles watching some of the neighbours panic about having to walk 200 yards to their cars, but that's another thread ;)

Clipless tomorrow?

I loved the bit where he sprinted off, there was a sort of "Wonder how far he'll get" moment

It's a Dad's favourite moment I reckon!

It's pretty impressive how he managed to weave his way along the pavement at times without having to come to a stop to avoid the wall/lampost/cars. A most excellent adventure
