Hi all I am considering a new bike for my 26mile round trip commute which I do 5days a week. I have used a hybrid for the last 3 years and would like to try a road bike as I am sick of road bikes whizzing past me with what appears to be little effort. Do I go for a second hand bike off ebay to try it out, do I go for carbon or is that just silly bearing in mind the punishment it is likely to get. At the moment I ride a carbon hybrid which is very nice and do not want to purchase a aluminium road bike for its durability only to find it feels lesser in comparison to my hybrid. I also do a bit of weekend riding approx 50miles. The hybrid was fine when I was not very confident at riding on the road but now I have overcome that then the road gives me a quicker, dryer less dirty ride in and out of work.

Thanks

it's far enough to justify a road bike, like forlike a road bike should be quicker; lighter, better riding position, more aero and you feel beholden to pass hybrids so faster

skinny rock hard tyres are good too

an all carbon hybrid? didn;t know there was such a thing, that sounds like it might be high end so there might be a drop in spec if you;re buying a cheaper road bike

the difference isn't so great to ride, youget the hang of it in a couple of day sand after that it's all good

if it's mostly road, consider steel (and some carbon) makes for a smoother ride, durable and has a nice retro look and nicer paint
