Hi Guys,

My trusty old Las Victory road helmet took a tumble off the top of the wardrobe and now has a small dent at the back so I figure I need to get a new one. Looking online it looks like Las helmets are not in production anymore so I have been perusing the quite frankly overwhelming amount of choice there are these days. I ordered the Specialised Echelon ii with MIPS as it had good reviews but it looked rather ridiculous and mushroom like, even in a medium so I am think of sending it back.

I know road helmets always look very silly but can anyone recommend one that looks reasonably okay by (helmet standards) and has a decent level of safety features? Budget is around £100 but would prefer to pay less (might even pay a bit more for the right helmet). The stocks in the LBS were quite poor but might try Halfords over the weekend.

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Planet X - they have loads of lids. Sizes are accurate is you use their measuring method - tape measure round your noggin.

Decathlon closeby? Travel further to some more LBS?
You really need to try some on or buy from retailers with free delivery/returns (unlike PX). No one can really say what will fit you/suit you (but yes Specialized helmets are often described as mushroomy). My best fitting helmet fwiw is a Kask Mojito

Yeah actually there is one that has just opened in Liverpool so might pop down over the weekend. The Echelon ii fit nice and secure but goddamn the wide profile is pretty insane. I'll check out the Kask Mojito, thanks for the heads up (pun not intended). Cheers

They are so individual there is no easy answer, imho. You have to try them on where ever you can to see what looks less lame.

Yeah, that's the crazy thing when buying a helmet you are always looking for the the one that looks the least worst. I quite liked my Las Victory, a shame they stopped making it.

Indeed. my lid of choice was a Catlike Whisper which AFAIK has now stopped being available in the UK.

I have a Specialized Prevail, not too bulky, and a Kask Mojito, both not cheap, my lad has a couple of Carnac Helmets from Planet X which are excellent for the price, its were my cash is going if I ever need a replacement.
