Was approaching a roundabout and accelerated to swing in just behind of the single car already on the roundabout and presently just front of me: only the driver saw me and stopped dead! Nearly broadsided her, but had to make a split second decision and (at speed) dodged round the front bumper of the now stationary car.
If she'd kept going all would have gone smoothly.
Close one!

Presumably either they misjudged your speed or they may have had a previous bad experience?

I hate this... When your adjusting your speed so you can join a RAB behind the car coming from your right.....

Only for them to slow down! ;)

Do they think were gunna dart out in front!?

Your problem might be because you accelerated. She probably thought you'd lost your brakes and was out of control, so did an emergency stop to let you go through ahead of her.

Has happened to me many times. Can be an advantage if you give a little appreciative wave.

What you don't do is sneak in BEHIND a motor vehicle. It might do an emergency stop anyway.....;)

Yes probably. I'd much rather do an emergency stop than risk a cyclist go over my bonnet, even if it would be their fault.

Person made the right call. If they thought there was even the slightest possibility of you cutting them up.

A good few years ago now I made a terrible mistake at a roundabout, thinking it was clear to go, so kept my speed up (down hill, about 30mph). I then noticed it wasn't clear and knew I wouldn't be able to stop so was looking for split second bail out options. Thankfully the driver noticed and stopped, allowing me to go past blushing and apologising.
