You should visit a supermarket more often. Waitrose has it almost year-round now, and it's often British.
*ducks*
Pop my location into their "store finder" and weep.
Call me picky, but isn't the true PSB season rather more wintry than springy?
No - tenderstem is pretty vacuous. I mean proper PSB. It was "discovered" a couple of years ago.Pop my location into their "store finder" and weep.
You don't mean that shrink wrapped "tenderstem" stuff, do you? There's something not quite right about that.
etiolated is one of my fave words, DP. Thankyou.Asparagus season in swing here too, but it's the white etiolated stuff. Tastes alright, but prefer green.
A nice thread this. A good reminder to buy local/seasonally. Bought a big bag of broad beans in their pods and made a kookoo today. Yumto!
One of those green omelette thingies? The broad beans at the greengrocer today were Italian, so I thought I'd wait for the local ones. Did get more asparagus though, and a mahoosive amount of PSB for 75p!
Yum! There's a shop next door to where I work that sells massive bunches of dill, so I will give it a go. On this occasion, I steamed the whole lot, had half of it with some chicken stew for dinner, and have dressed the other half with a bit of chilli, garlic and oil to have for lunch tomorrow with some olives and tomatoes...Yep! A sort of persian frittata - shed loads of dill and parsley. How do you cook all that PSB?
and have dressed the other half with a bit of chilli, garlic and oil to have for lunch tomorrow with some olives and tomatoes...
