My mobile is on contract from Virgin. They have emailed to say they are sending me a new SIM card.
As a complete technaphobe I am not even certain of what the SIM card does/doesnt do. I wonder.......
Is it a good or bad thing?
Why would they do that?
If I swap cards........do I lose all my stored information or is that stored elsewhere?
Thanks.

I think you need to use it to keep your phone working, I got one a few weeks back, was a simple process to swap, just follow the instructions that come with the sim.

It could be they are upgrading it to 4G (faster) or for another technical reason. You could always call them and ask.

It shouldn't affect its functions or any information stored on the phone.

At it's most basic, it's the piece that gives you access to their network. It's also the piece that stores your number. You'll need to contact them to activate it, carrying your number from the old SIM card to the new one.

Do you have a Virgin shop nearby? If so, take your phone and the new SIM card and ask them to swap it over for you. Some of the micro SIM cards can be very fiddly to do!

I just changed to virgin, when I actually came to use the SIM card they had sent it wouldn’t work and they said they needed to send out a new sim because they were changing their network over to virgin only??? I assume they are not using EE network anymore or something like that.

I also have some numbers stored on my old SIM card which I could do with swapping.
Guess I’ll have to put one sim in and save from there to this phone and put this sim in my old phone and save to sim just in case there are some on phone and some on sim.

Called in the Virgin shop today as suggested by @PeteXXX . As you say, Virgin have piggybacked off EE but are now going solo.
If you go into your contacts list and tap the 3 dots at the top you get the option to import them.
Do I sound like I know what I am talking about ^_^. The (12 year old shop assistant told me)
