New Stem extension

Help please!!

What do I need to know when buying a new stem extension. The one on my new bike is too long! Obviously I will need to know the length of the one on my bike, is there anything else??

By stem extension, do you mean stem? If so, you need to measure the distance from the centre of the steerer tube to the centre of the bars, the diameter of the steerer (likely to be 1.125") and the diameter of the bars at the point of contact with the stem. The stack height of the steerer clamp will need to be checked on the new stem so you can ascertain if you need any more or less spacers.
