presumably the balance has something to do with the strange world of gyroscopes, could balance be achieved if the front wheel was stationary ?
You have just redesigned a turbo trainer.....^_^

Gyroscopics have nothing to do with it, it's exactly the same principle as riding on the road. The front wheel needs to be spinning in order to be able to steer into the direction of the fall. If the front wheel were stationary, it would not be able to move side to side along the roller and you would soon become very well acquainted with the garage/kitchen floor.

I had another bash tonight, i felt more relaxed because i have them set up in the garage and i put some old carpet on one side, so if i had to step of due to me falling i would do the splits on the concrete garage floor.
I only had time for a quick 10 minutes but i done about 7 minutes with both hands on the bar so its looking good, but i only stopped because my front wheel came of the side.

Well done and keep going back to them.

I dabbled with the ‘rollers of death’ and echo what others have said.
I found getting a bit of speed up aided stability. Letting go of the wall (in my case kitchen cabinet) was just about keeping the faith, as once you have hold of the bars it’s pretty stable. It’s the transition one handy that causes the wobble. It really is just mind over matter, it took me several attempts.
I came to the conclusion that sweating while staring at the wall is not fun, where cycling on the cold wet Manchester roads can still be a hoot. Plus there are no Stava segments in my kitchen!

No problem. I'll give them a go over the next few weeks and report progress on here.

If my 9yo can use rollers I'm sure I can. Otherwise I'll not live it down at home :B)
