New tyres for my Hybrid

I have a Boardman Hybrid Comp.
It came with Vitoria Zafirro road tyres 700x28c

I did the C2C on these last year in atrocious conditions and they coped fine. But a couple of times lately I have felt a bit insecure in wet conditions and don't dare take the bike out when its frosty or icy.

So the question is what can i replace them with that will offer better grip but not give me too much extra rolling resistance.
This bike flies on tarmac and i don't want to lose too much speed.

I know Shwalbe Marathons seem popular.

I just don't want to buy tyres then put them on and feel like I'm cycling though treacle all the time.

Tyres are always a compromise between speed and comfort. I would stick to 28c tyres as they give hybrids good speed and some ability on the rough stuff.
Marathon plus are excellent tyres as are specialized nimbus all terrains (stock tyre on my sirrus elite)

Marathon plus for majority of time

Marathon winter (though only do down to a 35 so don't know if they will fit your bike) for the frost and icy conditions.

I've got Bontrager slicks with kevlar lining on my specialized hybrid!! I've only had 1 or 2 squeaky bum moments over 3yrs and that was on especially greasy rds!!

Are the current ones worn out? If they were ok for the c2c, what's changed? I'd stick to 28s otherwise you're heading into mountain bike territory width-wise. Perhaps something with a softer compound might help.
Slightly wider tyres wont make any difference in icy conditions - you'll need spikes for that.

I had a squeaky bum moment this morning and I am on 38s'. There must have been diesel or something on the roundabout
