Like many here I couldn't run a mile this time last year. I was running 5k by summer, and did a 10k in September.

This year's goals include an 18k (shortest distance in the Ecotrail Oslo event) in May, and a mountain half-marathon under the Telemarks Toughest event in September. God willing.

Oh yes.. and a sprint triathlon (which I've mentioned on CC earlier, and before I found out that I couldn't run or swim the required distances!).
Good for you!

I did my first sprint nine months after taking up running. That was two and a half years ago.

My goals are;

February
Tunbridge Half Marathon, anywhere under two hours.

June
Ironman 80.3 Staffordshire, finishing would be great

July
Ironman UK, finishing would be great, any hour I can save under sixteen would be a blessing!

The thing with running is, it's good if you're already slim, but if you're overweight it can quite literally be a real pain. I don't know why more people don't start cycling instead of running, IME it's easier to to a lazy 20 miles on a bike, you can go as slow as you want within reason, but with jogging you have to maintain a certain speed which (when I tried it) left me aching and breathless after 5 minutes! I guess it's because running is "cool" because it's featured in all the adverts

I used to cycle the ten mile to work then run home.Next day i would run to work and cycle home.I did that for years.I have run a few marathons,best time 3 03,best time for ten miles was 57 min I had to give up running after an accident at work so just cycle now but age would have stopped my running anyway

Heart rate training and Phil Maffetone's method does away with all that. :smile:
