There may be a few stick with it if they discover parkrun.
Gyms must make lots of money from those that take out direct debit type memberships but don't visit after the first couple of months. I can't ever see me becoming a member as 30 minutes on the ships treadmill is so mind numbingly boring

Some cyclist would also like to be able to run, but knackered knee's stop them.^_^
I would love to be able to run. Unjust cant run more than 100 feet without having to stop.

Bizarre, I can ride a hundred miles or more at an average if 20mph but cant even run for a bus

Edit...i also wish I could type on my phone...sigh
Parkrun is great, but I wish they wouldn't clog up the route I use into the city centre, every Saturday. If I get there before 9.00 it's OK, but if it's a bit later than that I have to take a detour, or do a mile at 4mph.

I think it's selfish of them to put the pleasure of a hundred or more runners before my important trip into town!
My local one regularly has 300+ attendance, and has had nearly 500 in better weather.. Fast flat course too - 2 laps and a bit of the park lake, think the record is under 17 minutes. First time I went I was lapped just before the finish line

I spend my working day inside a room lit by artificial light so I don't want to exercise in it as well I would much prefer to be outside if possible so I would never sign up to a gym, it works for others but not my thing.

I've just been for my frst jog in about a year. Having just given the bike a thorough clean, I was reluctant to take it out in the hissing rain but even more reluctant to sit at home watching Palace play Chelsea.
After about a mile I could barely walk and only just about made it home. My quads are killing me. My problem at 47 is that I still think I'm 18. Ouch
Back on the bike tomorrow!

Why do some jog/run wearing just vests and flimsy shorts in this weather? Surely their bodies can't generate enough heat to justify being so uncovered! I put it down to them being vain and thinking that people are admiring their physiques, when in reality people are thinking "Look at that fecking idiot"!

It's because they are harder than Ronnie Pickering.

I just did the same, first jog in a couple of years this afternoon, its my shins that are hurting. Still, I can only get better, the finishers medals I have for charity 10ks in the last 5 years give me confidence that I can get back to a reasonable standard.

I have a very strong motivation to get back to my fighting weight and get a strong cardio system. I'm off on a big diving holiday in the summer, and the fitter/lighter you are the less air you use, so you get to stay under water longer :okay:

Good luck with that- I feel your pain. I'll probably give it another go in a few days (jogging that is, not diving!) once I've stopped hobbling
