Serious athlete thread alert.

Why do some jog/run wearing just vests and flimsy shorts in this weather? Surely their bodies can't generate enough heat to justify being so uncovered! I put it down to them being vain and thinking that people are admiring their physiques, when in reality people are thinking "Look at that fecking idiot"!

I am new to jogging this winter (decided I do not cycle enough in the winter so needed something else). I am surprised how hot you get running. It has been really mild so far this year but I run in shorts and either just a T shirt or start off in my very thin summer cycling top but then need to take it off.
I think you don't get the chill that you have on a bike as you are going so slow and warm up quite quickly.
A vest is a bit much though.

You and me both, I cannot run at all but stop cycling for more than a week or so and the knee gets more painful. Maybe people would be healthier and need less help if they cycled more.^_^

I had very bad problems with my knees - wear behind the kneecap. It pushes on the knee joint as you straighten your leg. I could hardly get up one flight of stairs and was in pain every day.
I took up cycling and the build up of muscle changes the way the kneecap sits on the joint and so eases the problem. Also I lost about a stone in weight (partly from the cycling) and am currently on the way to losing another stone.

I was feeling good with the weight loss and so started running again. I can do Parkrun 5k in about 31 minutes after 2 months of running and get no problems at all with my knees now.
So I am all for attacking a problem rather than giving in to it. But of course I was fortunate in the issues I had could be dealt with in that way and some cannot.

I raced a bike for a lot of winters and in the early days this included river crossings, only wore shorts and one cycling top layer. So it is not reserved just for runners, I would also add it is very easy to get hot very quickly when running.

I really can't see why you would think that.

As long as I breathe, I attack.
I used to do a fair bit of jogging but i never enjoyed it , always felt like i was runnign through the tarmac rather than over it , 18 min 5 ks and 40 min 10 k were about my limit.

I wear a hi-viz sleeveless top over my black running gear. When running behind someone I don' t need to warm them I am behind them, they usually hear me puffing and wheezing before I get close.
Hi-Viz doth offend mine eye. On two wheels. On two legs.

Most of my running gear dark but I do have a few white tops. And in the UK I nearly always run in shorts and my codfish coloured skin is plenty visible.

My first run of 2016 was on 1.1.16 - 500m hill repeats x 5 in the pouring rain on a hill 2.5km from home. Didn't see too many others out thobut.

Most runners don't give a feck what other fecking idiots think.

Most footballers and rugby players wear shirts and shorts in the winter that offer naff all insulation, especially when wet.
